“Our house is within the Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests. Multiple hikes, nordic skiing, wildlife viewing, and fishing (Bar K Lakes/St. Vrain-Little James Creek) all within easy walking distance. Listening to the wind in the treetops. The hummingbirds and birds chattering. But most of all, the mountain seclusion with the luxury of having a great internet and cell service to also run our business,” shares Sue.
And, she points out that it is an, “easy commute to Boulder with serene surroundings.”
About the home in particular, Sue especially love, “The 55 windows and sun, logs and fireplaces. This house is also very environmentally friendly in that it was built using large beetle kill Engleman Spruce from northern New Mexico.”
Nature
Sue shares two favorite are hikes, “Down valley to the Little James Creek and then over to Miller Rock at the Ceran St Vrain trailhead which has excellent views east and west.”
And she will miss the nature that the house offers, like “bright sunny mornings, the wandering wildlife, immense night sky filled with stars and the Milky Way, the full moon shining in our forest.”
She also mentioned that, “We have mountain flowers in the entire yard surrounding the house throughout spring and into summer. Wildlife migrates through the property very often including bobcats, deer, fox, and a variety of birds.”
And, don’t forget moose and elk! “It’s not uncommon to have moose in our backyard, but our best experience was seeing 8 bull elk with large antlers graze on the grasses in the backyard,” Sue elaborates.
The Surrounding Area
There is plenty to keep the family occupied without heading into Boulder.
“The Merc in Jamestown is awesome as it frequently has great dinner and entertainment most nights with a great Thursday night special. Of course, the Deli in Nederland, Mountain Meadows Cafe in Allenspark, the Gold Hill Inn and Estes Park are a short very easy beautiful drive,” explains Sue.
And the neighborhood is a great resource as well. Sue shares that “it is a well-connected community. There is over 50 acres of community space and 3 high quality alpine fishing lakes. There’s a community garden. Stables and pastures, if we wanted to house horses.”
Remodeling
Sue says, “We put in a stained concrete floor in the finished basement, and now it is really warm with the heated floor. We added a beautiful rock wall and retaining walls around the property which blends perfectly in the large old Ponderosa Pine mountain forest. Recently we put in a new staircase to the deck.”
Bottom Line
“Views, large logs, heated floor, watching the sunrise, great decks and windows to watch the wildlife, morning walks after a snow,” make this house an idyllic spot.
